The Mercury Consortium held a live stream from the release of their draft spec (0.9) today from New York.
You can find out more on the Mercury Consortium website including the draft specification for EVSE (EV chargers).
This marks a significant moment, where over 39 new member companies have rapidly come together to address one of the next challenges for the electrification of the world. As we move to new low-carbon technologies, the lack of interoperability between our devices is creating a barrier to adoption and making the lives of manufacturers and flex providers both costly and complex.
Mercury aims to put the consumers at the heart of the journey, and removes barriers to adoption with a united coalition of companies (many of whom are competitors) to join forces to standardize:
- how devices should operate and communicate with the grid aggregators
- provide test and certification for such devices
The aim is not to create new protocols, but help narrow down and provide clear guidelines on how existing protocols should be used (and test that the devices are truly interoperable with multiple flex providers).
